A few years ago my uncle moved in with us after relocating from
Enugu to Lagos. This uncle of mine had a medical challenge that led to
epileptic fits from time to time and hence needed to have people around him
always. A few years down the line, he decided to move to an apartment of his
own, all appeals to him to stay with us fell on deaf eyes. His elder brother
who was in Enugu at the time, intervened and pleaded for some time to send him
a caregiver but he turned down the offer and proceeded to his own apartment. On
a faithful cloudy morning, we received news from his neighbours that he had
been “ill” all night and they struggled to manage him until day break when they
could send for us. Usually after the fit, he would get up and carry on like nothing
happened but on this day he couldn’t get up, he was dead on arrival at the
hospital, his miracle in the wind was no more.
Many times we (children of God) especially the Pentecostal
believers, have a long list of things we want God to do in our lives and we
vigorously, aggressively and persistently pray for the manifestation of those
things in our lives. However we fail to see, appreciate and be thankful for the
wondrous things that the Almighty God does for us on a daily basis. Don’t get
me wrong, I am a firm believer and teacher of faith for the miraculous and
there is nothing wrong in having expectations from God. Actually the bible
teaches that we should have expectations and believe by faith for them to come
to pass.
Proverbs 23:18 “For surely there is an end; and thine
expectation shall not be cut off.”
Luke 1:45 “And blessed is she that believed: for
there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the
Lord.”
So clearly the scripture is in support of us having expectations,
but when was the last time you took time to thank God for the little but yet
mighty things that He does daily in our lives? The best things in live are
truly free. It is a blessing to breath of your own accord without the
assistance of a ventilator, if you doubt me ask an asthma patient. It is a
blessing to walk unaided, dance, run, talk, hear and even smile but we take
these for granted because they are miracles in the wind! Things we experience
but like the wind do not acknowledge.
The wind is reflective of how we take things for granted. We feel
the wind, we know it’s there but we take no cognizance of it. Same way we
neglect the miracles in the wind that should constantly remind us of a loving
God who truly cares for us. How many of us parents will not be elated to hear
your children thank you for the “normal” things you do for them? Imagine if
your son or daughter woke you up with “daddy/mummy I want to thank you for
making sure we don’t sleep hungry” many eyes will be teary. It is the “little”
things in life that keep us going through it all.
The Almighty God loads us daily with blessings, deliverances,
miracles that we ought to be grateful for but some of us take it for granted.
How many times have you thanked God for the miracle of family, friends,
neighbours and acquaintances? It was because my uncle took the miracle of
family and community for granted that he died when he did. If only someone was
in that apartment with him that night, perhaps he will be here with us today.
Don’t neglect the miracles in the wind, they are more important
than the “big” miracles we fast and pray about daily. Learn to have a heart of
gratitude to the almighty God for the “normal” things we receive from Him.
Don’t wait until you can’t experience those marvelous miracles in the wind to
understand how important they are to our lives. Don’t allow darkness teach you
the importance of light. Shalom
