Gratitude by Ifeanyi Chukwujekwu

Image result for Gratitude

Every request requires a prelude,
And it is the expression of gratitude.
When next you decide to brood,
About the things you don't have, but think you should,
Just remember He has been good.
If only we really understood,
Love of such magnitude
Gratitude would be our attitude
And we would thank The Lord every chance we could.

JFMC Lagos-Ogun District Convention - Unfailing Covenant of God

My loom of many colours by Miranda Ese Ogboru - Available on Amazon

"My Loom of Many Colours takes us on inexpensive pilgrimage into the universe of a bard reinventing idyllic paeans and exploring idioms of love in a world driven by sin, corruption, and dread. Miranda Ese Ogboru’s poems are as mellifluous as the rhythm of a lyre, even as she engages us in meditation on the trajectories of our existence. The spiritual essence of man is reawakened in illuminating tropes. Her verses tug at our hearts, and the heat is on humanity to turn a new leaf. This is a poet whose verses are bound to endure countless seasons."

Like a Flint - By Ifeanyi Chukwujekwu

The enemy better take a hint,
For I've set my face like a flint.
Steadfast, unshaken, I will not be moved.
I'll get on with the task The LORD has approved.
It isn't just any poker face,
For His spirit gives courage to run this race.

And because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will know no disgrace.

God's Child by Ifeanyi Chukwujekwu

Just like the rich kid braggadacio,
Recounting his pedigree just to show

His father's name gives indemnity.
And because of who he is, he enjoys impunity.

Likewise, if you are born of the spirit,
Christ's lineage you do inherit.

So speak to the the accuser with indemnity accorded to you
'Do you know who my FATHER is? How dare you?'

Race of Life - Bishop Sam Chidoka - Conclusion

At the 16km point 2017 Lagos City Marathon

Lesson 2
You reap what you sow

Whilst preparing for the Lagos City Marathon, I ran most mornings and every Saturday I did a long run that was usually not less 21kms. I was preparing my body for the gruelling task of running 42.5kms. I trained once a day and at least five times a week. On the day of the marathon, many came out to run without an inkling of the discipline, training or state of mind required for a marathon.

Race of Life - Bishop Sam Chidoka

Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

As recent as two years ago I picked an interest in long distance running motivated by my elder brother Osita Chidoka who had found running as a way of keeping fit and maintaining a burgeoning waistline. I have always being a sports person, preferring football because I couldn’t understand the reason people would stress themselves running when no one pursues. I found out with time that running grows on you. On the 6th of February 2017 I completed my first full marathon, the Lagos City Marathon 2017. It took determination and mind over matter to complete that race and in the process I learnt some life lessons that I’ll like to share with you.

The God Factor

Image result for God factor

Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Often times many attribute their blessings to the "God Factor". Some believe it, others deride it and some are somewhere in-between. I believe in the God factor! It is the grace of God in the life of a person that makes that person excel. Jesus had the God Factor as mentioned in Luke 2:52 above. Favour with God and men that made him exceptional in all aspects of his life from a little child till the end of his ministry.

My Alma Mater

Image may contain: sky, tree and outdoor

Last week I was in Enugu and decided to visit my alma mater, University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC). Right from the gate, the school was different as expected, from the one I left 17 years ago. The uncompleted gate house and bad road therein was not welcoming. On getting to my former hostel which was the raison d'etre I went to the school, I found out that Mariere Hall, the seat of power, had become a female hostel!! My heart sank. I could not imagine this happening when we were at UNEC. But I was in for a greater shock! On enquiry, it turns out only Kenneth Dike and Mbonu Ojike are male hostels and the rest are now female. I was told the hostel allocation is a reflection of the ratio of female to male students in the school now. According to the three students I spoke with, there are now more female students in the school.

Miracles in the wind - By Bishop Sam Chidoka

Image result for wind

A few years ago my uncle moved in with us after relocating from Enugu to Lagos. This uncle of mine had a medical challenge that led to epileptic fits from time to time and hence needed to have people around him always. A few years down the line, he decided to move to an apartment of his own, all appeals to him to stay with us fell on deaf eyes. His elder brother who was in Enugu at the time, intervened and pleaded for some time to send him a caregiver but he turned down the offer and proceeded to his own apartment. On a faithful cloudy morning, we received news from his neighbours that he had been “ill” all night and they struggled to manage him until day break when they could send for us. Usually after the fit, he would get up and carry on like nothing happened but on this day he couldn’t get up, he was dead on arrival at the hospital, his miracle in the wind was no more.

Blessed Assurance - By Miranda Ogboru

Fiery darts
Punctured hearts

Counting days
Feeling dazed

Losing hope
Can hardly cope

Yet, in abandonment
I feel contentment

In my aloneness
I feel your kindness

I need not whine
For none do I pine

Soaked in your Words
... Vanquished
- are a thousand swords!

Time and chance

Ecclesiastes 9:11I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all”.

In the passage of life, we will experience the good, the bad and the downright ugly. We will pass through the proverbial eye of the needle, we will also experience breakthroughs and marvelous testimonies. Life is about highs and lows, curves and straight roads, valleys and mountains, hell and hills.

Why is God silent? - By Victoria Ijeoma Agomuo

I changed my position from sitting on the floor to lying face down. It had to be the position. I waited for minutes that seemed like hours. This thing doesn't seem to be working for me. Massive book shelves loomed over me silently , their contents penned by God's generals and spiritual giants like John G Lake, Kenneth Hagin, Smith Wigglesworth, A W Tozer, Derek Prince, Andrew Murray, Charles Finney, Kathryn Kulhman, Maria woodworth Etter and many more seemed to be mocking my failure.

Let your light shine - By Ifeanyi Chukwujekwu

Everyone has talent,
It must not be music, sport, or art.

So don't you ever relent,
Seeking out what you're good at.

It may not be audible or visual,
And could be subtle, unlike the usual.

Discover the reason you were made,
Uncover your light and step out of the shade.
Let it shine bright and never fade.

Faithful, Merciful, Just God - By Ifeanyi Chukwujekwu

He is sure to keep His covenant
Though our commitment is sometimes itinerant
His mercy seems quite tolerant

But let no one be deceived
On that day each one's judgement will be received

So let's commit our lives to Him
Our Saviour who gave His life to redeem

Though He may delay
Do not dismay

We would not be oblivious
Of His saving power so obvious

Overcoming life's challenges

2 Kings 7:1-4
1Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
2Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
3And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?
4If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

In life we face challenges of varying degrees and characteristics. Sometimes we go through the fire and other times through the water, sometimes through the valley, other times through the desert. Life itself is a challenge and we as children of the most-high God must face those challenges with knowledge, wisdom, vigour and grace.

Move with your vision - By Ifeanyi Chukwujekwu

He has placed within you, a vision
Perhaps bigger than your wildest imagination

See that you set out on this mission.
Don't get stuck in indecision,
Thinking you lack the qualification.

He who sent you has made provision
So keep moving, stay in motion
With the seal of God's commission

The Church and Unity - by Victoria Ijeoma Agomuo

One tailor insulted my mom because she was upset he didn't finish her cloth as at when agreed. Mom came home that day livid and almost breathing fire. She was so upset she didn't talk to anyone so we all knew whatever transpired between her and the tailor must have been really ugly. 'Essy!' (Pet form for Esther) ishi n'ogini mere?' (What did you say happened?) My dad called her into the 'other room' and the discussion of the event didn't last long. Next thing we knew dad was dressed up in trousers, shirt and a mighty frown of fury. Some tailor nearby was in for it. To cut the gist, my dad didn't engage the guy in a fight of words or fists, he just got the police to do the job for him. It wasn't long before the tailor started tendering unreserved apologies to my mom. Never insult a man's wife, you would be forcing him to display the rough side of his masculinity.

Church and Human Government

1 Peter 2:13-15 AMPC
Be submissive to every human institution and authority for the sake of the Lord, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, Or to governors as sent by him to bring vengeance (punishment, justice) to those who do wrong and to encourage those who do good service. For it is God's will and intention that by doing right your good and honest lives should silence (muzzle, gag) the ignorant charges and ill-informed criticisms of foolish persons.

Lessons from the Prodigal Son

Lessons from the Prodigal Son

Text: Luke 15:12-13 KJVS "And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living."

The parable of the prodigal son was told by Jesus in response to the accusation from the Pharisees that he mingles with sinners. The parable shows the failure of sin, the act of repentance and the joy of salvation. We can say that the parable is a type of our relationship with our almighty Father. How sin separates us from God and how genuine repentance can restore us to our position as sons and heirs of the inheritance by faith through grace.

From this parable, there are lessons to be learnt and in this blog I dwell on five things to learn from the prodigal son and his experiences.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life."

The above scripture is perhaps one of the most popular bible verses of all time. In one verse of scripture the whole essence or purpose of Christ's incarnation is explained.

Storms - Bishop Sam Chidoka

Not every storm is of the devil! Sometimes God uses storms to push us to destiny! If Joseph was not hated and sold by his brothers, he would not have got to Potiphar's house in Egypt, if Potiphar's wife did not lie against him, he won't have ended up in prison, if he didn't go to prison, he won't have met the baker and butler, if he didn't meet the butler no one would have told Pharaoh about Joseph's gift and consequently lead to the fulfillment of his God given purpose of being King over his family and in a strange land. God also uses storms to push us to purpose, so when in a storm, pray and believe God for the manifestation of His will in your life! Shalom

Forgiveness - Bishop Sam Chidoka

Matthew 18:21-35 21
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[a]
23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[b] was brought to him.
25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’
27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.[c] He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded. 29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’ 30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.
31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.
33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’
34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

The word translated Forgive in the bible can also mean to let go, give up a debt or neglect a wrong doing. Forgiveness is a conscious or deliberate effort made towards a person who has harmed or hurt you, in obedience to the word of God. It means giving up the right to retaliate. It means to wipe the slate clean, to let go of a debt.

Jesus - My Everything - Bishop Sam Chidoka

Revelation 1:8 "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." Many know Jesus as the beginning and the end without realizing that Jesus is also the middle of everything! Your dreams, aspirations, visions, family, health, career, yesterday, today, tomorrow, your ALL should be firmly rooted in Christ! Christ is the beginning, the end and everything in-between. No matter the challenge you face in this life, one thing that knowing Christ gives you is assurance of victory in this world and the one to come. With Jesus in your vessel, you will smile at the storm!!! Make Jesus your all in all and you'll never regret it.

Sense of Entitlement - Bishop Sam Chidoka

One of the worst things that can happen to a man is to have a sense of entitlement! Know this my friend, no one owes you anything!!! People will help you, God will move people to help but they don't owe you! Not your parents, siblings, friends or acquaintances, the earlier we take responsibility for our lives and reject the notion of entitlement because of relationship, the better for us. shalom.

Take Responsibility - Bishop Sam Chidoka

The most difficult enemy a man can have in life is himself! The enemy called you is stronger than all the witches and wizards in your village, all the demons of hell and even the chief demon himself combined. It is you that stopped you from doing what you could have done yesterday that could have made your today better! It is you that failed to take the plunge, it is you that failed to make that decision, it is you that failed, yes it is YOU. Take responsibility and stop the blame game. Some pray for their enemies to die by fire, you better look in the mirror before uttering such, as you could be sending fire your own way. Once you deal with the enemy called you, the external enemies become easier to deal with. See you at the top.
